Planning your

Wedding Celebration

at

St Barnabas Anglican Church, Mt Eden, Auckland

The historic church of St Barnabas makes an ideal venue for your wedding ceremony. A west-facing setting can add to the special nature of your wedding day and there are some excellent local venues for your reception within a short distance. St Barnabas Church can accommodate up to 250 guests.

Marriage is a very important step, and we encourage you to contact us to explore ways we can make your day special.  We also encourage you to plan well ahead with a date for your ceremony. You are very welcome to visit our church and speak with us about the options available to you.

Fees and Booking

Church only: $1,000 (if required the evening before for a rehearsal, please state at time of booking) covers:

Use of the church for 2 hours on the day (50 minutes for guests to arrive and decoration + 70 minutes for the ceremony and clean up);

​

Organist: $150 (list of hymns available below)

​

Lounge and kitchen: $200 (suitable only

for groups of 15-20)

 

Celebrant’s fee: $300

 

A non-refundable 10% deposit is required

at the time of booking.

Extras:​

Bells at the end of your ceremony $100

 

Rubbish removal fee $40

 

We recommend you confirm your booking as soon as possible as there can be requests for the same day and time. A non-refundable and non-transferable deposit of $100 will confirm the date and time of your booking. The balance is due to be paid within 7 days before the wedding date.

 

Dates

Wedding ceremonies are not held during Holy Week (the week before Easter) or during the four weeks following Christmas (24 December 2022 – 15 January 2023, or on Sundays or public holidays.

Officiating Minister

Your own officiating minister is welcome to conduct your wedding at St Barnabas, or our vicar can conduct the service.

St Barnabas is an Anglican church which welcomes all people regardless of gender or ethnicity.

​

​NB: Civil marriage celebrants are not permitted to preside in any Anglican Church in this Diocese.

Music

Our organist is available to play at your ceremony if you so desire.  A list of wedding hymns is provided. Alternatively, you may wish to have your own singers, musicians.

Use of our up-right piano is free of charge.

 

Our sound system can play music from a CD

or any electronic device.

Bells

If you wish to recruit our Bellringer to celebrate your wedding, St Barnabas has a Bell Tower and expert Bellringers. An additional fee is payable to the Bellringer should you wish to have the bell rung after your ceremony.

 

Decorations

A large silk flower arrangement can be provided. You may bring in additional flowers. You are welcome to bring in your own ribbons or flowers to tie to the ends of the pews (please do not tape, glue or pin to the wood).

 

Confetti (rice, paper bombs etc) of any type are not permitted inside or outside the church. Fresh or dried rose petals are an acceptable alternative for confetti. Artificial petals may not be used inside the church.

 

Please arrange for any decoration (including petals), boxes, discarded material including hymn sheets to be removed at the end of the ceremony. Thank you.

Photography

Photographers/videographers should speak to the officiating minister before the service. This is a courtesy to both the minister and the bridal party. Guests are welcome to take photos.

 

If you wish to take photographs in the church at the conclusion of your ceremony, please let us know at the time of booking.

Parking

The bridal vehicle parks on the Bellevue Road entrance at the front of the church.

​

Other parking is available on Bellevue Road and Mt Eden Road.

​

Refreshments

If you would like to conclude your ceremony with brief refreshments, please book extra time for this (subject to numbers of guests and availability). Alcohol cannot be consumed outside the church.

 

Marriage Licence

You will need to apply to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (https://marriages.services.govt.nz) for a marriage license around four weeks before your wedding day. The license is valid for three months, and it takes three days to be prepared. If you have previously been married, you will need to show the Registrar the legal papers relating to the dissolution of that marriage.

Then you will need to have these details before you start:

  • full address of the ceremony location (St Barnabas Anglican Church, 283 Mt Eden Road, Mt Eden, Auckland)

  • the name of the officiating minister you have arranged

  • personal details of you and your partner

 

Please note that we cannot conduct a legal marriage without a license. It is your responsibility to ensure that the license is completed correctly and delivered to the church's office on rehearsal day or earlier so that the church’s register can be completed.
